This book brings together works based on research that examines the development of the Argentine educational field from the mid-19th century through the early decades of the 20th century, with a focus on the provinces of Córdoba and Santa Fe. Through perspectives that include political, intellectual, cultural, and gender history, the studies explore the tensions between secularism and Catholicism, the educational agenda of political and intellectual elites, and the participation—both visible and silenced—of various actors in the shaping of the educational system. A concluding chapter offers a methodological reflection on the study of local political elites and access to sources in institutional repositories. The volume is the result of a collaboration between research teams from the National University of Córdoba, the National University of the Littoral, and the National University of the Northeast, and advocates for academic conferences as spaces for building networks and sharing knowledge.
