Synopsis

Reflecting on theater direction poses the challenge of questioning the particularities of a complex artistic practice, in which conceptions about the craft, conventions, traditions, and procedures intersect and compete. Within the framework of theater studies, we recognize a vast body of specific knowledge about theater directing focused on particular poetics or on the biographical dimension of those who assume the role, in such a way that it is possible to identify and delve into approaches focused on what directors do. This book also seeks, in particular, to bring together inquiries that emphasize what directing does, that is, that problematize and construct categories capable of describing and bringing into tension the singularities of the practice of stage directing and question the ways of approaching its study. Thus, this book is conceived as a crossroads of different lines of work and aims to strengthen the field of thought on the specificity of theater directing.
