Synopsis

The book *Ante pasados y futuros* is a compilation of the winning entries from the International Essay Contest on the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Human Rights, launched by the Human Rights Program of the School of Philosophy and Humanities in 2019, with the aim of recognizing contributions from the humanities and social sciences to the fields of research, advocacy, and activism. Education in the humanities and social sciences has demonstrated the importance of its critical potential for rethinking the scope and meanings of the category of human rights, its tensions, and the need for its ongoing updating to contribute to a reflection on practices and discourses.
